Three Castles Walk in Appiano

The three castles Castel Corba, Castel d’Appiano and Castel Boymont are a true medieval adventure for the whole family

Our boys (8 and 6 years old) are at the best age for visiting castles and an excursion into the woods. So we decide to let them plunge into the world of knights and damsels. By car we drive to Missiano, past Corba Castle and a beautiful farmhouse, until the parking space in the forest, where we leave our car. Our first ascent takes us up to the Appiano Castle Ruin. The castle keep is already visible, this fact helps to manage the quite steep ascent. Arrived at the castle, the boys enthusiastically discover the grounds while we adults enjoy a drink in the tavern and visit the castle chapel. After an extensive pause, we set off for our next destination, Boymont Castle. The route is well-signposted. It leads us first down into the valley and on the other side uphill again, across very steep stairs.

Here caution is required, especially if it was raining the recent days. At the top the path proceeds towards Boymont Castle. We have to manage one more ascent, moreover a cave has to be discovered before we reach the castle. The castle keep is located right in the grounds and can even be mounted. A gorgeous view awaits us! Also Boymont Castle is characterised by many nooks and corners, herb gardens and a castle tavern, where medievally dressed men serve the drinks in clay jugs. Also here we allow ourselves to enjoy an extensive break before we start again. The route leads us downhill now to Castel Corba, which houses a hotel and back to the parking space where we left our car. Tired but satisfied we get in the car and all of us are very sure, that it was not the last time that we visited these castles.
