Walk to the waterfall of Vilpiano

The 82 m high waterfall near the village of Vilpiano, a popular natural highlight, is the destination of this hike

We start our walk at the church square of Vilpiano - a parking space and a bus stop can be found nearby. A small path leads us through the village past the training centre of South Tyrol's voluntary fire brigades to the Bachau recreation area. Step by step we come closer to the edge of the forest where we already hear the murmur of the water. In former times the water of the Rio Vilpiano was used for the mills, since the 17th century, however, part of it irrigates the fruit orchards and vineyards of Vilpiano.

A sign informs that the access to the path is at the hiker's own risk due to the danger of slipping and rockfall. Take care! The forest soon thins out and the 82 metres high waterfall comes in sight. The water cascades over a cliff of red porphyry rocks into the Valle dell'Adige valley and collects in a small water basin before it flows through the village of Vilpiano and towards the Adige river.
