Hike from Flavon Castle to San Giacomo

This short walking tour through the deciduous forests near Bolzano is recommended especially in spring and autumn

Starting point is the district of Aslago (Haslach) in Bolzano. On the Küepachweg path we reach the Flavon Castle, which houses a nice restaurant today. From here we follow the asphalt road still a bit towards south until the forest path with the marker San Giacomo - Laives branches to the right.

The path, also called Pedemontana, proceeds through the broadleaf forest across a little valley which hides behind a summit. After a while, the view opens towards the Chiusa di Salorno, just below San Giacomo (St. Jakob) and the airport of Bolzano are located. We leave the forest and reach the small wine-growing area of San Giacomo with the San Giacomo Church in the middle. For the way back we take the same route. An alternative is the descent to San Giacomo where a regular bus connection to Aslago is available. Please note: Not recommended on hot days!
