Hike from Settequerce to Bolzano

This autumn hike proceeds to the Noafer Hof farm in the Törggele area above the Valle dell’Adige valley

This grey November day with its special atmosphere is perfect for a hike through the chestnut forests. The route still offers mild temperatures at the sun-exposed slopes. In the village centre of Settequerce (Siebeneich) south of Terlano we start our walk through the landscape characterised by vineyards to the St. Anthony Church and further uphill. Greifenstein Castle towers on a rock face above our heads - this first section through the oak forest is the most demanding and steepest. Arrived at the ruins of the castle the forest landscape changes into a natural terrace made up of meadows and fields with some farmsteads in between. One of them is the Noafer Hof farm, a well-known rest point and Törggele tavern which invites to stop for lunch.

Afterwards we continue our hike on the path no. 9 to the village centre of Cologna (Glaning) with its St. Martin Church. This section follows the asphalt road (low traffic). Before we start the steep descent to Bolzano we enjoy the view on its quarters from the east to the west - so to say from the old town to the Talvera river, the quarter of Gries with its imperialistic buildings dating back to the Thirties as well as the new housing areas built in the last years and decades. Near the Föhrner-Hof farm the chestnut forest gives way to a wine landscape and the steep stone paved path crosses the Guncina Promenade (Heinrichspromenade). The latter leads us down in serpentines through the botanical garden to Gries. From the Piazza Gries square in Bolzano we finally turn back to Settequerce, our starting point, by bus.
