Hike from Cauria to the Monte Corno

The Malga Corno mountain hut, the destination of this hike, is accessible from Salorno

The hamlet of Cauria (Gfrill) at 1,330 m a.s.l. belongs to the municipality of Salorno and represents the staring point of our hike to the Monte Corno (Trudner Horn). In the village centre we follow the signpost "E5" (European long-distance trail) towards the Lago Bianco (White Lake). Walking through the forests of the Monte Corno Nature Park we reach this lovely mountain lake at 1,650 m a.s.l. covered by reeds and surrounded by Alpine roses, larches and pines. After another 30 minutes we arrive at the Malga Corno mountain hut (Hornalm) which invites to stop for lunch. We enjoy the delicious local dishes before we turn back to our starting point in Cauria.

For the way back we choose the path to the Lago Nero (Black Lake) and further on to the Passo Cauria saddle. The descent requires surefootedness and hiking shoes. The special highlights of this tour are the views on the Val di Fiemme valley in the Trentino and the Bassa Atesina area up to Bolzano and the Dolomites as well as the beautiful landscape with its Alpine roses, mountain pastures and countless species of butterflies. The Monte Corno Nature Park is South Tyrol's southernmost nature park and a real natural jewel.
