This mountain hike is only recommended for experienced mountaineers! We start our hike on the asphalt road no. 540 leading from the parking space in San Michele Appiano (400 m a.s.l.) via the Englar and Moos Castles to the Steinegger tavern at 610 m a.s.l. At this point we turn left and hike on the forest path no. 540 to the junction to the Forcella Forcolana wind gap (Furglauer Scharte). The path gets steeper with gradients of up to 50% on gravelly soil - the most difficult section of the tour is ahead of us. On partially eroded trails and narrow paths we climb the rocks and cross the gorge several times.

The path snakes its way in a zigzag line through the wind gap, offering some spectacular views on the valley and the Dolomites. Shortly afterwards we exit the wind gap at 1,491 m a.s.l. and turn left to follow the trail no. 500 towards north. After 1.5 km we reach the meadow clearing with the "Bait del Prinz", a dilapidated wooden hut. We continue our hike on the path no. 545 on the right - it leads towards Buchwald and the Cammino Nuovo path (Neuer Weg). At the next junction, we follow the forest path towards south and further on to the crossroads with the Forcolana High-Altitude Trail. Finally we turn back to our starting point in San Michele.
