Nalles

Some 15 km from the spa town of Merano nestles the first village of the South Tyrolean Wine Road: Nalles (320 m a.s.l.)

Nalles counts some 2,000 inhabitants and consists of the village of Nalles and the hamlets of Sirmiano and Sirmiano di Sopra. Did you know that Nalles is also known as the "Rose Village"? Stroll around this quiet place - obviously in the right season which is spring, summer or autumn - and enjoy the splendour of these majestic flowers, whose name originates in the Latin term "rosa".

Fruit orchards and vineyards cover the area in and around the village. Testimonies of the past such as castles, residences and ancient farms characterise the landscape: Castel Payersberg enthrones near Sirmiano above Nalles, at the ascent to Prissiano there are Castel Casatsch and Castel Sant'Erasmo. Moreover there are the Stachelburg Castle and Castel Schwanburg, one of the most ancient wineries of Tyrol. Several times a year, Nalles is in the centre of attention, due to the events that take place.

There is e.g. a horse rider's festival, a festival for vintage cars or a famous cross-country mountain bike competition. However, not only for mountain bikers, but also for those who prefer pleasant cycling tours, Nalles is an ideal place. The Adige Cycle Path (Via Claudia Augusta) runs along the homonymous river. The towns of Merano and Bolzano are only about 15 km from Nalles.
