Hike from Montagna to Gleno

The pleasant walk in the wine-growing region of the Pinot Nero starts in the village of Montagna

This short hike is especially beautiful in autumn and spring and leads us to the southern hamlets of the municipality of Montagna (Montan). From the Sportbar on the Dolomite road we walk past the tennis court and via the Via Kaltegg and Via Pinzon roads to the Piazza Santo Stefano square in the hamlet of Pinzano (Pinzon). We admire the beautiful old residences and farmsteads in the middle of the vineyards, built in the typical local style. The village centre of Pinzano itself is a special ensemble made up of a church, the main square and the murals depicting fables on the walls of the Pinzonerkeller tavern.

We continue our hike on the Via Gleno towards Gleno (Glen). The road gets steeper and past the Wasserfall tavern (closed) on the edge of the Mill Valley (Valle dei Molini / Mühlental) we reach the path no. 4. It proceeds to the Montagna - Trodena main road and turns into the trail no. 1 leading downhill to the famous Old Val di Fiemme Railway Line. Crossing a viaduct we arrive at the old Montagna train station and continue further on to our starting point. The landscape in the south of South Tyrol is dominated by deciduous forests, vineyards and old buildings with Venetian style elements - it reminds us of Tuscany...
