The Mendola is the local mountain of Appiano and Caldaro and is a popular destination for inhabitants, both in summer and winter.
The centre of the Mendola mountain ridge is the Passo della Mendola (1,363 m). It is not only a popular destination for motor bikers, but also for hikers. In winter, however, there is a little skiing area providing anything winter sportes enthusiasts could long for. Ín summer the mountain pass is a popular place for those who would like to take a break from everyday life. A series of little huts in the forests are by the way ideal for a sojourn.
The Mendola can be reached via the homonymous cable-car, which is one of the oldest and steepest funinculars of Europe, that has its lower terminus in the village of San Antonio/Caldaro. Of course you can also scale the Mendola from Termeno, Appiano and Caldaro. The road to the Mendola mountain pass starts at Appiano or Caldaro and has got 17 hairpin bends, guaranteeing a great view down on the valley.
