S. Antonio

San Antonio (523 m asl) is a hamlet of Caldaro and valley station of the famous Mendola funicular.

S. Antonio in Caldaro is above all known for its special station. The Mendola funicular dates back to the year 1903, in 12 minutes only it overcomes a gradient of 64% and an altitude difference of 850 m. That is to say it is one of the steepest funiculars throughout Europe. Very close, there is the church of this village, originating in the 15th and 16th century. However, also more ancient murals as well as frescoes of the 14th century were found.

Along the road to Pozzo you can admire the facade of Castel Giovanelli, that is directed to the street. It is a charming building built in the Oltradige construction style, situated on a hill that is covered by vineyards.

In S. Antonio, on its southern border, there is the sports zone of Caldaro. On the other side of the road, the adventure park (high rope course Caldaro) provides the possibility for climbing among the treetops of the Castelvecchio forest.
