The cooperative wein.kaltern has established an educational hiking trail called “wein.weg” (wine.trail) across Caldaro and the vineyards.
It is part of the concept of the cooperative wein.kaltern, which provides for the image of Caldaro as wine village.
The “wein.weg” or “Weinweg” of Caldaro (wine path) runs across the village and its vineyards in a loop, down to Lake Caldaro. It presents the beauty of landscape in and round lake Caldaro and it boasts one special feature: on the soil you can read the name of the respective cultivation area you are just walking by, always at the beginning and end of it. “Prunar”, “Palurisch”, “Garnellen” or “Puntara”, only to mention some of them. Tabletops of the same material, established at four strategic points, offer interesting information on the history of wine as well as its producers at Caldaro.
Also at the beginning and end of the municipality of Caldaro, there is a huge limestone monolith, on which the lettering wein.kaltern is depicted. These monoliths stand on a socket of red porphyry. Both stones are contained in the soil on which the wine grows.
Walking time to lake Caldaro or to Pianizza di Sopra: about 1 hour
In spring and summer, the local tourist authority offers guided walks with wine tasting along wein.kaltern.
Detailed information on this path is available at the tourist office in the centre of Caldaro.
