Moscato rosa is an autochthonous wine grape variety of Trentino and a very popular dessert wine.
Moscato rosa is a white grape variety imported from Sicily and a variation of the more common Moscato bianco. Since its harvest is unsure every year, it is cultivated at a very low scale. The Moscato rosa grape is very sensitive, ripens late and is prone to rot. It is small-sized with a thick skin and dark blue in colour. Moscato rosa has a very intensive aroma of nutmeg.
Typically Sicilian, Moscato Rosa is full-bodied, very sweet and spicy. Young Moscato rosa wines taste and smell flowery. When aged for 4 to 6 years they have a more elegant, but less aromatic aroma. It pairs particularly well with South Tyrolean dishes like poppy strudel or “Krapfen“.
