Teeing off against an impressive mountain backdrop while enjoying the fresh air and the peace of nature – this is what golfing in South Tyrol is like. This sport of precision involves hitting a ball across wide lawns into a small hole in as few strokes as possible. For a long time, golf was considered an exclusive pastime, but today the sport is open to anyone who fancies a sporting challenge in a well-kept landscape.
There are several excellent places to play around the South Tyrolean Wine Road. Those who want to play a full 18-hole round will find several courses in the vicinity. The golf course in Monte San Pietro is in a particularly beautiful location, which you can reach from Termeno in about 45 minutes. The course is set on a high plateau at 1,200 metres and blends harmoniously into the surrounding forests. Other golf courses are located in Lana, at the Passo di Costalunga and – just beyond the Passo Mendola – in Sarnonico in Trentino.
Would you rather get a taste of the sport first without any commitment, or practise your short game? Then Appiano is a good place to start. There you will find two practice facilities: one in Riva di Sotto and another in San Michele.
