From via ferrata routes on Mount Roen to modern bouldering gyms: find your vertical adventure

Are you looking for a challenge and want to test your skills on rock and climbing walls? Along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, you will find numerous opportunities to do just that. Whether you want to explore a protected via ferrata like the one on Mount Roen, balance through the treetops in a high-ropes course, or go bouldering in one of the modern gyms – there is a suitable route for every demand here.


Caldaro:
Caldaro offers an adventure park opposite the San Antonio sports zone, in the Castelvecchio forest. For further information also see the respective article (link at the end of this article).


Appiano:
For bouldering come to San Michele. The hall offers a climbing surface of 200 sqm as well as 30 defined routes and of course also climbing courses are offered. This gym is located in San Michele all'Adige, on the west side of the Raiffeisen gym. Access via the bowling bar.

The climbing garden "Col dell'uomo" is located in the forest of Monticolo. It offers approx. 30 routes from III to VII of a length ranging between 6 and 20 metres. Park your car in the sports zone of Ronchi and walk along the right side of the sports fields towards the forest. This is where the walk to the climbing garden, which takes you about 20 minutes, is indicated.


Termeno:
From Termeno, but also from Caldaro, you can reach the hiking trail to the Rifugio Oltradige, where the fixed-rope route to the 2,116 m high Roen mountain starts.

The climbing gym of Termeno also offers an area for bouldering. Otherwise the gym includes 294 sqm of for climbing with 2,200 holds. The wall is 12 m high and there are 6 fix top rope routes. Difficulty ranges from 4a to 7c. The climbing gym can be found in the new Raiffeisen gym.

Favogna:
The ultimate tip for adventurers is the Favogna fixed rope route, starting in Magrè and leading to the favogna mountain, as the name of the route reveals. Absolutely recommendable!


Bolzano:
The new Salewa Cube is one of the most beautiful climbing halls in Italy. Located in the industrial zone of Bolzano, it is the perfect place for climbing and bouldering. With 180 indoor and outdoor climbing routes, difficulty levels ranging from 3 to 8c and walls up to 19 metres high, it promises the ultimate climbing experience. The overhangs of up to 9.5 metres in the Challenge Area are also not to be sneezed at. The green area in front of the tower and the bistro invite you to chat and watch.

Cortaccia:
In Cortaccia you can climb in the locality of Penone at the so-called "Morderplotte". After the fourth hairpin bend towards Favogna you can park on the left and right side of the road. In Corona you can climb in the area of the so-called “Unterlegstoan“. On the road to Favogna you reach the Gasthof Boarenwald tavern within 15 to 20 minutes and you can also park your car in this area.


Salorno:
The southernmost village on the Wine Road also has something to offer for climbing fans. Here you can find a bouldering hall with a 190 m² climbing area as well as a climbing garden with routes from 4a to 7b and lengths from 10 to 25 metres.
