The Civic Theatre of Bolzano is hosting an internationally significant concert evening: Kent Nagano conducts the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento and the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini from Parma together on stage – over 100 musicians in total. The programme places the forces of nature and their musical imagery at its centre.
The first half is devoted to the world premiere of the Violin Concerto "Stradivari" by German-Uzbek composer Aziza Sadikova, written on commission for violinist Rebekka Hartmann. The second half brings Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" – a cornerstone of European modernism whose legendary 1913 Paris premiere ended in uproar. Stravinsky described the inspiration behind the work as the vision of a great pagan ritual: wise elders seated in a circle watching a young girl dance herself to death, sacrificed to appease the god of spring.
The soloist of the evening is Rebekka Hartmann, an internationally acclaimed violinist and prize-winner at numerous competitions, including the Henri Marteau International Violin Competition (2005) and the ECHO Klassik 2012. She performs on a 1675 Antonio Stradivari violin that bears her name: the "Hartmann Stradivari". The concerto was written specifically for her; a recording with the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano was released in 2025.
Kent Nagano is one of the leading conductors on the international stage. He served as General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera until 2025 and will take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España in Madrid from September 2026.
The programme will be repeated on 31 May at 5:00 PM at the Auditorium Paganini in Parma.
