Description
International Museum Day, promoted by ICOM, celebrates the fundamental role of museums as living spaces for cultural exchange, encounter and participation. On this special occasion, admission to Museion is free for the entire day.
At the heart of this year's edition is Painting Game, a participatory work by Canadian artist Adam Harrison. Harrison transforms painting into a collective experience: a genuine social game, available in different formats, providing paints, brushes and cards with open instructions designed to spark the imagination of everyone who takes part. The result is a choral painting born from the interplay of chance, intuition and human interaction.
Harrison draws on an artistic tradition that recognises play as a powerful expressive tool, from the historical avant-gardes of Dadaism and Surrealism to the Fluxus movement. Following in the footsteps of artists such as George Brecht and George Maciunas, who in the 1960s and 1970s broke down the boundaries between art and everyday life, Harrison gives creativity a shared, accessible and deeply relational dimension.
The day also dedicates a special space to children, with a programme of animated readings in Italian and German: a curated selection of illustrated books will take the youngest visitors on a journey through emotions, stories and new perspectives.
Throughout the event, the Art Speakings service and mini guided tours in Italian and German will also be available.
