Music, film and rhythm in the city
On 30th April, the whole world celebrates UNESCO International Jazz Day - a day on which jazz music becomes a symbol of peace, dialogue and creativity. Bolzano, as a “City of Music” in the UNESCO Creative Cities network, participates with a rich and varied programme that makes the city resound with live concerts in several locations and a touch of cinematic jazz.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige, the Municipality of Bolzano, the Filmclub Bolzano and the shopping centre Twenty, an urban sound carpet is created that celebrates jazz in different nuances - from swing to nujazz to a documentary dealing with jazz, the Cold War and the decolonisation of the Congo.
Programme:
5 pm - Tiger Dixie Band at Twenty Mall
This marching band brings the roaring energy of the 1920s to Twenty Mall. Traditional, sweeping jazz in the style of Louis Armstrong - touring, engaging and full of groove.
6 pm - Train de Swing open air in front of the Filmclub Bolzano
With this acoustic quartet, the audience travels into the world of Django Reinhardt and 1930s Paris, with gypsy jazz rhythms and elegant arrangements. A meeting of sophistication and nostalgia.
7 pm - Cheyenne open air in front of Casa della Pesa
The experimental nujazz genre merges with electronic soundscapes. The band Cheyenne combines improvisation and sonic depth - and creates a pulsating musical universe in the heart of the old town. Concert in collaboration with Upload Sounds.
8 pm - Film Soundtrack to a Coup d'État at Filmclub Bolzano
A touching documentary about music, power and resistance. Director Johan Grimonprez explores the role of jazz in Africa's post-colonial history and during the Cold War, with rare archive footage and political insights.
On 30th April 2025, International Jazz Day transforms Bolzano into an open stage for musical diversity and cultural dialogue, with free concerts at various locations around the city and an in-depth film screening at the Filmclub Bolzano.
