Favogna di Sotto
Favogna di Sotto is surronded by an idyllic natural landscape and is a great spot of land to spend hot summer days.
Favogna di Sotto is located on a plateau high above the village of Magré, at an altitude of 1,030 m asl. Due to its idyllic natural landscape, the lake and the quiet of this place, it is a particularly popular summer resort, also for inhabitants of the entire Bassa Atesina.
The little mountain lake, Lago di Favogna, located in this place, together with the little church, the cosy tavern and the protected natural reserve, forms a fairy-tale like ensemble. From 1977 the area round the lake is a protected area, a biotope 10 hectares. About 35 different orchids, ranunculus as well as other plants and also crayfish have their natural habitat right in this place.
A walk across the forest in Favogna is also highly recommendable, as there is much to see, such as the sequoias in Favogna, planted in 1908 to the honour of the Austrian emperor Franz Josef. The little church is dedicated to S. Leonardo, enthrones a hill and is surrounded by an iron chain. According to a legend, every seven years the chain is enlarged for one link. It is presumed that when this chain completely surrounds the church, it is going to be the end of the world…
