Monte Corno
The Monte Corno nature park comprises the municipalities of Egna, Montagna, Salorno, Anterivo, San Lugano and Trodena.
A Kneipp facility, a mill and a fascinating natural scenery: the Monte Corno is considered to be one of the most diversified nature parks of South Tyrol. The Monte Corno nature park has really got much to offer to its visitors. Alpine pastures covered by a sea of alpine flowers, ponds, mountain lakes and the moors, these are only some examples for the beauty of nature in this park. Forests with larch trees, rowans and pine trees of various kinds, the breathtaking panoramic view on the surrounding mountains, simply a great experience for hikers in the park.
Of course in the south of South Tyrol you also come across sub-Mediterranean vegetation. When hiking you can discover plants such as the butcher’s broom or hollies as well as animals such as the green lizards, cicadas and praying manits. The soil, however, is mainly characterised by two rock layers, that is to say the Dolomit on the side of the Adige and the quartz porphyry with its red-brown colour on the other side.
The Monte Corno visitor’s centre is located in an ancient mill. It has got three floors and has recently been restored. The building itself is a so-called elevator mill which has been re-activated in 2000. It mills the corn of the mountain farmers of the surroundings. However, the visitor’s centre provides detailled information on flora and fauna of this nature park.
