Chardonnay Session three

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is one of the most famous white wines in the world and a very popular aperitif.

Long time ago, crusaders returning from the Near East brought this white grape to Europe, to the region of Burgundy in France. Today, Chardonnay is one of the most widely-planted grapes, with over 50,000 ha worldwide. Its grape is very similar to Pinot blanc. Just like the latter, Chardonnay requires a mild, sunny climate and a rich, warm and chalky soil.

Chardonnay is an early-budding grape and therefore the risk of damage from springtime frost is rather high, but it also ripens very early. The wine is dry with fresh and fruity aroma and a high alcohol content. It is excellent accompanied with fish. Chardonnay fermented in oak barrels is also perfect with roast meat and matured cheese.

Serving temperature: 10 - 12°C
