Carnival in Bolzano and surroundings

No matter how you call it, Carnival is above all celebrated in the south of Bolzano.

There are many ways how the most crazy period of time is called in different places, on the one hand fasching, on the other hand carnival. No matter how you use to call it, in the Bassa Atesina, along the South Tyrolean wine route, many carnival traditions have developed in the course of time, making this period a lavishly celebrated and eagerly anticipated one. These are the main events for the fasching period.

Terlano: “Unsinnigen Donnerstag“ (Foolish Thursday): traditional carnival parade in the village at 1 pm, Mardi Gras: carnival for kids, 2 pm

Appiano: parades in various localities such as Cornaiano and Frangarto

Caldaro: on “foolish Thursday“, there is a party and celebration for all the family (especially for young children) in the school yard of the elementary school, 2 pm

Ora: the carnival parade in Ora takes place on Sunday between the “foolish Thursday“ and Mardi Gras. Huge figurines, great carriages and celebrating partypeople along the roads. Start: station, 1 pm

Cortaccia: carnival parade on carnival Sunday, with the traditional “Schnappviecher“ and a huge party. Games and prizes

Bolzano: in Bolzano, there are many different events, e.g on the Talvera meadows on Mardi Gras, parties and a parade from Laives liven up the city quarters

In Salorno and Termeno there are special parades.
