Mt. Corno Bianco (2,316 m a.s.l.) in the Fiemme Mountains is recognisable by its special light rock colour of white Sarl Dolomite
Mt. Corno Bianco (Weisshorn, in German - literally: White Horn) and its twin peak, Mt. Corno Nero which is only 1,000 m away, can be seen from afar towering over the Monte Regolo ridge in the south-east of South Tyrol: A break in the earth crust, the so-called “Trodena Line”, is the reason for the fact that Mt. Corno Nero was folded 1,000 m higher. Its porphyry layers, however, were ablated in the course of millions of years, so now both mountains have about the same altitude.
On the western flank of Mt. Corno Bianco there’s the Bletterbach Gorge, a popular hiking destination and World Natural Heritage site which offers an insight into 20 million years of earth history. Also the peak of Mt. Corno Bianco can be reached in only 1.5 hours, as the respective parking space is located at 1,989 m a.s.l. at the Oclini Pass. This saddle between Mt. Corno Bianco and Mt. Corno Nero becomes a small but mighty skiing area in winter.
