Mount Prato del Re

Mt. Prato del Re (1,622 m a.s.l.) and the 974 m high Kanzel viewpoint are popular hiking destinations, which are well worth a visit

Mt. Prato del Re (Königswiese, in German - literally: King’s Meadow), a widely known viewpoint, is in fact a 1,622 m high peak of the Fiemme Dolomites, located on the municipal territory of Egna and in the heart of the Monte CornoNature Park. Towards east, Mt. Prato del Re is connected with Mt. Corno by the Cauria Pass (1,450 m a.s.l.), on the northern slope, however, there is the Gstoager Forest with its Kanzel Path, which leads directly to the eponymous viewpoint.

Mt. Prato del Re and Kanzel are both well-known excursion destinations: The 974 m high Kanzel can be reached from Casignano (Gschnon) in Montagna in a hike of 1.5 hours, a longer alternative starts in Klösterle near Laghetti. The round tour to Mt. Prato del Re, an equally stunning viewpoint, leads in 3 hours from Cauria (Gfrill) to the summit and back again. The view from both lookouts stretches from Egna in the Bassa Atesina area towards north to Lake Caldaro and the Monte di Mezzo ridge and towards south to the usually snow-capped peaks in the Trentino.
