Of course the folkloristic museum of Appiano is located in one of the large number of castles which are spread all over the area.
The folkloristic museum Castel Moos-Schulthaus is situated above the centre of Appiano, so to speak above S. Michele at Appiano/Monte. In this beautiful area many residences and mansions have been built, such as Castel Gandegg or Castel Englar.
In addition this area offers a great view on Appiano and the city of Bolzano. Exactly for this reason we recommend you to combine a visit to this museum with a pleasant walk to the Gleifkirche church or across the scenic landscape and forests of Appiano/Monte.
The castle has been built in the 14th century, the mural paintings also date back to that age.
The museum opened in 1985 and is administrated by the Walther-Amonn-Foundation.
Castel Moos and the mansion Schulthaus form an ensemble which best demonstrates the beauty of historic buildings in Appiano and surroundings. Completed by the S. Caterina church, this ensemble perfectly fits into the scenic landscape. Please take the opening hours into consideration, so that your combination of hiking and a museum visit succeeds.
