Castel Schwanburg is located underneath the Payersberg castle, which is also part of Nalles. Castel Schwanburg is still inhabited today and is one of the best preserved castles of the Reinaissance period.
In the 13th century it was mentioned as „Hans in der Gaul“ in various documents. Only in the 14th century the Schwanburg castle was rebuilt. In the years between 1560 to 1575 Jakob von Boymundt-Payersberg conferred the beautiful present form to the castle complex and it was named after the emblem of the family, on which a swan is illustrated. By the way, this swan is also illustrated on the municipal coat of arms of Nalles. The castle complex is very attractive and really striking. In the ancient castle cellar there are a series of French oak vats as well as wood barrels of the period of Maria Theresia.
Today the Schwanburg hosts the oldest winery and the respective administrative and residential building. The enterprise Rudolf Carli Erben took over the company of the former owners and handles the 15 hectares of vineyards today. The wine that is produced right here is sold als Castel Schwanburg. On certain days there are also guided tours, in which the work in the vineyards is described.
