Climbing and mountaineering

Between Nalles and Salorno, there are numerous possibilities for passionate climbers.

Sometimes you simply want to know if you can make it. Some prefer fixed rope routes, climbing in relative security. Others, however, would like to know if they would overcome every obstacle.

Along the South Tyrolean Wine Route, there is something for every taste, as there are relatively high mountains such as the Roen and also climbing gardens, able to satisfy every needs.

> Caldaro offers an Adventure park opposite the San Antonio sports zone. For further information also see the respective article.

> Monticolo (Appiano) offers a climbing garden. For bouldering come to San Michele. The hall offers a climbing surface of 200 sq m as well as 30 defined routes and of course also climbing courses are offered. This gym is located in San Michele all’Adige, on the west side of the Raiffeisen gym. Access via the bowling bar.

> The climbing garden “Col dell’uomo“ is located in the forest of Monticolo. So far it offers (November 2010) 10 routes from II to VII of a length ranging between 6 and 20 metres. Park your car in the sports zone of Ronchi and walk along the right side of the sports fields towards the forest. This is where the walk to the climbing garden, which takes you about 20 minutes, is indicated.

> From Termeno, but also from Caldaro, you can reach the hiking trail to the Rifugio Oltradige, where the fixed-rope route to the 2,116 m high Roen mountain starts.

> The climbing gym of Termeno also offers an area for bouldering. Otherwise the gym includes 294 sqm of for climbing with 2,200 holds. The wall is 12 m high and there are 6 fix top rope routes. Difficulty ranges from 4a to 7c.

> The ultimate tip for adventurers is the Via Ferrata di Favogna, starting in Magrè and leading to the favogna mountain, as the name of the route reveals. Absolutely recommendable.

Another climbing gym can be found in the city of Bolzano next to the Druso stadium and the Lido of Bolzano. You can park your car in the immediate surroundings. From the main station it takes you about 10 minutes to reach the gym.

The 2nd climbing gym in Bolzano, the new Salewa Cube (1,850 sqm surface for indoor climbing), opened in 2011 in via Waltraud Gebert Deeg.

> Climbing in Cortaccia

In the locality of Penone at the so-called „Morderplotte“. After the fourth hairpin bend towards Favogna you can park on the left and right side of the road.

In Corona you can climb in the area of the so-called “Unterlegstoan“. On the road to Favogna you reach the Gasthof Boarenwald tavern within 15 to 20 minutes and you can also park your car in this area. For further information see the AVS contact information above.
