The historic district of Bolzano is both the centre of Bolzano and South Tyrol

The historic buildings of the city, the alleys, typical Italian Piazze as well as a wide cultural offer in the centre attract a large number of visitors as well as inhabitants of South Tyrol to the historic district of Bolzano. This is also where the seat of government and most buildings of the Provincial Administration are located. Moreover it is a perfect place for ambling along the historic arcades, go shopping. Don’t forget to visit the Gothic Dome of Bolzano and have a cup of Macchiato at Piazza Walther. Moreover the most important museums are located in this city district, such as the Archaeologic Museum with the famous Iceman, the Museion (Museum for Modern Arts) as well as theatres, cinemas and the University of Bolzano.

In the west the historic district of Bolzano is delimited by the Talvera meadows, somehow the “Central Park” of Bolzano. In the north it is delimited by the Monte Renon and its popular San Osvaldo Promenade, from where you can enjoy a great view on the city. Piani di Bolzano and Rencio, however, extend at the entrance to Valle Isarco. This is also where the largest vinicultural area of Bolzano is located, which is Santa Maddalena, origin of the world famous “Magdalener” wine, which keeps conquering new markets.
