The Messner Mountain Museum - generally referred to as the MMM - is a special kind of museum found at Sigmundskron Castle close to the city of Bolzano. Opened in June 2006, it is the fourth mountain museum by the legendary extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. Housed within the historic walls of Sigmundskron Castle it is just one of 5 sophisticated Messner museum projects.

The full name of the museum is “MMM Firmian Mountain Heritage” and the museum itself creates actually a very special place of encounters. Its main aim is to introduce the world to the mountains and the people living there. The visitors, the pieces of art and the show rooms are meant to maintain an open dialogue. Key words as vicinity and distance, curiosity and astonishment describe the museum fairly well. But maybe you should see it with your own eyes.

Appiano features, moreover, a natural history museum at the Moos-Schulthaus Castle and Caldaro boasts right in the centre of the village the South Tyrolean Museum of Wine.

The Municipal Museum of Termeno hosts carefully selected agricultural tools and tells you everything about the history of wine-growing and early corn processing.

Cortaccia hosts the Museum of People through Time, bearing witness to the human development from the stone age to modern times.
