Appiano, South Tyrol's region of castles

High above Terlano towers the Neuhaus Ruin, which might be seen from near and far and renders Andriano an ideal starting point for a special kind of hiking: “castle hiking”.

A truly huge number of manors and castles (80 and more!!) characterise the surroundings of Appiano. Our tip: Some of them may again serve as great hiking destinations.

Also Caldaro boasts a number of inhabited castles, such as Salegg Castle, Kampan Castle or Leuchtenburg Castle above Lake Caldaro.

In the area of Cortaccia and Salorno, the majestic Turmhof Castle as well as Haderburg Castle - which by the way is the most southern castle of the German speaking area - create a truly legendary atmosphere. And in the close surroundings there is the so-called Enn Castle towering high above the Val d'Adige Valley...
