Bolzano Festival Bozen
From July 9 to October 23, 2009, Bolzano will enchant its visitors with music.
“Bolzano Festival Bozen”, this is how a series of musical events is called in the capital of South Tyrol, taking place the oncoming summer. A total of 26 concerts will enchant visitors and listeners and four different music festivals are united by this event. See the programme in detail:
The first highlight and probably the most famous event is the 57th International Piano Competition Ferruccio Busoni, taking place from August 26 to September 4. This year there will be several competitions and prizes that are awarded within the frame of the Busoni competition, such as the “Music Critic Prize” and the prize the the „Interpretation of contemporary piano music”. Six participants come from Italy.
Antiqua is the second event taking place from August 9 to 21 in different historical buildings of Bolzano. In 2009 the British pianist Purcells and his 350th anniversary is celebrated, but the event is also dedicated to Haendel and Haydn.
Concerts of various Youth orchestras take place fom July 23 to October 23. Some of the most famous guests will be the director Andrew Litton (European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO)) or Jonathan Nott (Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra) and the solist Renaud Capuçon.
Last but not least, the Gustav Mahler Academy. From October 4 to 24, this academy is taking place in Bolzano, offering master courses. Italian and European lecturers will teach 50 participants and a concert programme is studied. This event focuses on Felix Mendelsohn-Bartholdy, whose 200th anniversary is also celebrated this year. There will be four chamber concerts focusing on the famous composer.
On October 23, there is the ultimate highligt of “Bolzano Festival Bozen”, which is a symphony concert of the clarinettists Dario Mariño Varela and the director Diego Matheuz, which also represents the conclusion event of “Bolzano Festival Bozen”.
