Monzoccolo

Above Ternano and opposite Nalles, there is the Monzoccolo mountain. It is a place of drawback in all the seasons.

The Monzoccolo, also called “Tschoeggelberg” is located on the left side of the Adige between Merano and Bolzano. On the mountain ridge, there is the famous Salto, a great high plateau, that particularly shines in splendour in autumn months, above all thanks to its larch forests.

The prevailing stones on the Monzoccolo is the quarz porphyry of Bolzano. The glaciers of the Ice Age have formed this area and create space for meadows, fields and forests. The Monzoccolo summits at 1,941 m at the Giogo di Verano.

From Vilpiano, a cable-car takes you to the high plateau of the Monzoccolo. In the nearby Postal, there is a cable-car to Verano and also from Bolzano a gondola takes you to San Genesio. Moreover the high plateau is accessible via severa mountain roads.
