Wasserfall Glen Montan 2011

Waterfall of Gleno

In the Valle dei Molini, that is to say in the Rio di Trodena river gorge beneath Gleno, there is a very special waterfall.

It’s not its dimension making the waterfall of Gleno (municipality of Montagna) so special, as the waters of the Rio di Trodena plunge down only a few meters into the gorge beneath Gleno. It is rather its the form of the rocks, reminding on a glacial mill, making the waters get a special swirl that is worth seeing.

Walking down to the waterfall you will only discover it when you stand right above the waters, as this natural monument nestles in the forest. Along the walking trail to Casignano you cross it on a narrow wooden bridge, where the power of the water unfolds under your feet. Most probable the reddish rocks have been caved by a glacier in retreat, resulting in the water to make a kind of salto.
The natural monument is really impressive, be careful not to lean out on the bridge and please also avoid to diverge from the path. A visit to the waterfall can best be combined with a walk from Montagna, via Pinzano and Gleno. By the way, only 10 minutes from the waterfall there is the „Wasserfall“ tavern, ideal for a stop.
