Herbert Rosendorfer

The author and lawyer from Bolzano is a hilarious personality. At the moment he lives in Appiano.

Born in 1934 at Gries in Bolzano, Herbert Rosendorfer studied in Munich and worked as court assessor and public prosecutor in Germany. Since 1997, point of time in which he went in pension, he has been living in Appiano on the South Tyrolean Wine Road. In the period of time prior he was professor at the Munich Ludwig Maximilian University and has been declared professor of honour for Bavarian Literature.
Herbert Rosendorfer is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Beaux-Arts as well as of the Academy of Science and Literature in Mainz. In 1977 he was awarded with the Tukan Price, in 1992 with the culture award “Oberbayrischer Kulturpreis”, in 1999 with the Jean Paul price, in 2000 with the German Fantasy Price and in 2005 with the Literature Prize of the city of Munich.
Moreover he was awarded with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (since 2000), an Austrian Award for Science and Arts and the Bavarian Order of Merit (since 2004). Moreover the famous citizen of Appiano is President of Honour of the Kuno Krissler Association.

Above all, Rosendorfer writes fantasy literature but also distinguished himself in the field of realistic literature. In his satirical and grotesque novels there are frequently juridical characters and details, such as in the pieces of writing “Ballmanns Leiden” and “Die Donnerstage des Oberstaatsanwalts”. Also compositions and adaption of a story for musical theatre have been penned by the artist.
