Terlano and the Asparagus Wine

An excellent asparagus dish in the so-called “South Tyrolean Asparagus Triangle” also requires the right white wine

The Asparagus season in the municipality of Terlano, which includes the districts of Vilpiano and Settequerce, lasts from the end of March to the end of May. The area offers the best conditions for growing asparagus: The climate is mild and the Adige river has filled the area with sand and fine earth. The asparagus fields occupy about 10 hectares in Terlano. The well-known Margaret asparagus is grown here and is harvested from the end of March. This is celebrated in the restaurants and inns of Terlano and its surroundings with the popular Asparagus Weeks.

When the fresh asparagus is traditionally served with home-made ham, boiled potatoes and Bolzano sauce, the right wine should not be missing. The Terlano Winery has created its own asparagus wine, a light Sauvignon blanc, which is bottled especially for these culinary weeks. The fine, mineral white wine with its delicate fruity aroma is harvested separately and is also bottled a little earlier. By the way: The precious and healthy vegetable was already mentioned in the oldest Chinese book of medicinal plants (approx. 2,800 BC).
