South Tyrolean Wine Museum

Located directly in the centre of Caldaro, the Wine Museum shows how viticulture has developed in this area in the course of time.

Wine is an important topic, above all in the southern parts of South Tyrol, a popular wine-growing area. Above all autochtonous wines such as Lagrein, Schiava and Gewürztraminer are world-famous and popular. A large number of awards prove that local winemakers know their craft.

With good reason the first wine museum in the south of the Alps has been established in Caldaro in 1955. Until 1986 it was located at Castel Ringberg above Lake Caldaro, afterwards the museum transferred to the centre of Caldaro and this is where you can find a permanent exhibition focusing on the work in the vineyards and the production and storage of wine. The exhibition also includes various items such as ceramic and glass containers, manuscripts and documents as well as religious items.

Moreover this museum is venue for numerous events and if you want to you can rent the wine cellar for your personal event. However, in the adjacent viticulture garden you will learn more about various methods of vine-growing. Also ancient types of grapes can be inspected and the grapes can be tasted in autumn. A little shop provides further documents for those who are interested.
