Bolzano city museum

The Bolzano city library provides plenty of information about art and history of arts.

The City Museum of Bolzano has been inaugurated in 1905. This institution saved archaeological findings, documents, objects and pieces of art from destruction and preserved it for oncoming generations. Moreover the association taking care of the museum organised further special exhibitions and cultural events which have been received favourably by its visitors.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the city administration decided to construct a building for the museum in Via Cassa di Risparmio. Since then the city museum collects items and objects that are interesting for the city and surroundings from an artistic and historical point of view. The items, however, date back to medieval times but also come from present times. Findings from recent times particularly regard the field of archaeology and ethnography.

Along with the museum, a library was founded. The documents date back up to the year 1882 and represent complementary components in the studies of art history, archaeology and history of local arts and folk arts. One of the collections also dates back to the 15th and 16th century. The collection comprises more than 27,000 volumes…
