Favogna di Sopra
The pretty village of Favogna di Sopra is located at 1,200 m asl, on the homonymous high plateau.
Favogna di Sotto and Favogna di Sopra are the two villages that make up the Favogna high plateau. In fact, Favogna di Sotto belongs to the municipality of Magré, while Favogna di Sopra makes part of Cortaccia. A little church and a hand full of buildings form the village. The little S. Maria Ausiliatrice church originates in the 17th century, nearby there is the Ulmburg Castle, adding an elegant note to this area.
Driving the road from Cortaccia to Favogna, you come by the gorge of the river of Favogna, plunging down from the Corno di Tres mountain, and you come across a series of giant sequoias. More than one century ago (1908), these trees were planted on the occasion of the throne jubilee of the Austrian emperor Franz Josef.
Favogna di Sopra and the entire high plateau of Favogna with its beautiful, natural lake, are a popular excursion destination for locals in the south of South Tyrol. Ideal either for relaxing, or for walking and climbing.
