The Speck Festival has become a much longed for highlight to all lovers of South Tyrol. Every year in May, people from far and near unite in Piazza Walther in Bolzano to rejoice in local delicacies, to make new friendships and to celebrate. Numerous music bands entertain the visitors and even stage plays are performed. And obviously there is lots of speck, that oh-so tasty type of smoked or cured bacon made according to well-defined traditional procedures nearly everywhere in South Tyrol. But this isn't all. Gourmets and lovers of the South Tyrolean cuisine can look forward to a cheese stand, apples, asparagus, a speck cinema, a craftsman market, dumplings, noodles and sweets, special kinds of home-made bread and even an open day at Bolzano's wineries. The Speck Festival offers all and more, from dawn til dusk. And moreover, you will learn all you wanted to know about “holidays on a farm” in South Tyrol.
Four days of celebrating with lots of music, dancing, handicraft and delicacies from South Tyrol - sounds great doesn't it?
And obviously there are many more festivals in Bolzano, such as the festival in the historic city centre, the so-called Spectaculum (a medieval festival), the Lorenzi Night beneath the medieval shopping arcades, the Jazz Festival and many more.
